Zachary Nicholas, MD

Dr. Nicholas graduated from the University of Utah at the top of his class with honors during medical school. He underwent training through the Huntsman Cancer Institute, the Mayo Clinic and the University of Washington prior to starting his residency in Radiation Oncology at the University of Oklahoma. There he was trained in Stereotactic Radiosurgery, IMRT, Brachytherapy and Proton therapy at one of the few centers that offers all these modalities in the United States. Dr. Nicholas is trained in Breast, Prostate, Lung, Head and Neck, Gynecologic, other Urologic, G.I., Brain, Lymphoma, Sarcoma and Skin cancers. The University of Oklahoma is one of the top five cancer centers for clinical trial enrollment and one of the leaders for the NCI’s National Clinical Trials Network. During his time there Dr. Nicholas was able to publish research in numerous fields of cancer therapy.

Dr. Nicholas joins our clinic now with the partnership of the Huntsman Cancer Institute and is a Community Adjunct Professor for the University of Utah in the Department of Radiation Oncology. With the help of the Huntsman Cancer Institute and generous donations from our local community he is excited to bring the latest in cancer treatment technology to our regional cancer center. He is happily married to his wife of 13 years and they have three children who are loving life in Rock Springs and have already formed tight bonds in the community.

Our advanced radiation therapy equipment is used to treat specific types of cancer in a precise, effective manner based on an individualized treatment plan designed specifically for each patient.

Comprehensive Patient Care

Members of the Radiation-Oncology team work in collaboration with various departments at the hospital and in the community to provide excellent, comprehensive patient care throughout the continuum of cancer treatment. The Radiation Oncologist will consult with patients referred through various medical providers to explore effective treatment options and develop an acceptable plan of care.

Top-of-the-line Equipment

Memorial Hospital Radiation-Oncology has top-of-the-line equipment including; a large bore CT Scanner that will be used for the most accurate treatment planning possible, and a Varian linear accelerator that is capable of performing the most up-to-date treatments for common cancers and medical conditions that require radiation therapy. In addition, Memorial Hospital will be the only facility in Wyoming to offer treatments using the Protura robotic couch that improves delivery of radiation to within millimeter accuracy.
