Meet the Team: Katie Surbeck

Meet the Team: Katie Surbeck

Katie Surbeck has worked as a Patient Access Specialist at Sweetwater Memorial for nearly 10 years. As you can see, she brings the joy of the holidays to work with her, much to the delight of patients, visitors and staff.

What does your job entail?
I register patients, verify patient insurances, address, phone numbers, primary care physician, etc., when they come in for Lab work. Some days I will also register Medical Imaging patients Outpatient Services.

What do you like most about your job?
I like talking with the patients and learning about them and their families. I also like being a familiar, friendly face for the patients when they come to the hospital. If it helps make the visit a little less stressful for them, that makes me happy.

What does “Compassionate Care for Every Life We Touch” mean to you?
I hope everyone I come into contact with feels like they have a friend here at the hospital. I want them to know that someone cares about them every time they have a visit here.

When you’re not at work, how do you spend your time?
I like to read, craft, decorate and redecorate my house, play with my two doggies, spend time with my friends and family. I work out almost every day after work. I love to cook and bake. And, my husband and I like to travel.

Tell us something that most people don’t know about you:
Most people may not know that between my husband and I, we have 10 grand-littles.
