Get Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab You Can Trust — Close to Home
When you or a loved one needs cardiac or pulmonary rehabilitation, you want to make sure you choose a facility that not only offers comprehensive services but also has a team dedicated to supporting you and your family. At Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County, you will receive specialized treatment from a team that truly cares about your success, all in your own backyard.
“MHSC is the only organization that provides cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation in the county. We strive to create a welcoming environment for our patients,” said Mica Sprouse, Registered Nurse in the rehabilitation program at MHSC. “Our team is invested in our patients’ success. We want to see our patients achieve their highest level of function and increase their quality of life.”
Your physician will refer you for cardiac or pulmonary rehab if they believe you could benefit. The team takes a multidisciplinary approach to helping you achieve your goals, and patients in both programs will see a doctor, nurse, dietitian, social worker, and exercise specialist.
Cardiac Rehabilitation: Getting Your Heart Back Into Activity
Cardiac rehabilitation is designed to help you recover after a serious cardiac event or surgery. Qualifying conditions and procedures include:
- Angioplasty or coronary stenting
- Chronic heart failure with an ejection fraction (EF) of 35% or lower
- Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), also known as heart bypass surgery
- Heart attack within the last 12 months
- Heart transplant
- Heart valve repair or replacement procedures
- Peripheral artery disease
- Stable angina
This outpatient program is personalized for each patient to give you the best possible outcome. As you exercise, the cardiac rehab professional monitors your oxygen levels, blood pressure, and rates of perceived exertion.
In addition, you will work with a dietitian to create a heart-healthy eating plan and receive guidance on how to lower cardiac risk factors, such as quitting smoking, losing weight, and reducing stress. As the program will be tailored to your personal needs, it could last anywhere from two weeks to three months or longer.
Pulmonary Rehabilitation: Helping You Breathe Better
The pulmonary rehabilitation program helps patients with chronic lung conditions restore their pulmonary function to the highest level possible. Qualifying conditions include:
- Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS)
- Asthma
- Chronic bronchitis
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Cystic fibrosis
- Lung cancer
- Pre- and post-lung transplants
- Restrictive lung disease
Each patient follows a personalized program that includes exercise while on a continuous ECG heart monitor. Oxygen is also provided. Additionally, you will meet with a dietitian to help develop healthy eating habits, and you will learn breathing techniques and strategies to help perform daily tasks with less respiratory effort. The pulmonary rehab program is also customized for your needs, lasting from two to 12 weeks.
With You Every Step of the Way
The rehab team at MHSC will be with you throughout your journey to recovery, seeing you two to three times per week. The team also regularly communicates with your primary care and referring physicians and adjusts your care plan as needed. After completing the cardiac or pulmonary rehab program at MHSC, you and your family will have all the tools you needfor a better quality of life as you look to the future.
