Sweetwater Regional Cancer Center (SRCC) is a proud affiliate partner of the University of Utah’s Huntsman Cancer Institute in Wyoming. The state-of-the-art facility offers a range of services and specialists all under one roof, including: hematology and medical oncology, chemotherapy and infusion area, radiation oncology, radiology, specialty laboratory services, and various medical and surgical specialties. Abundant examination, treatment and procedure space offer improved patient flow and access. Conference rooms and academic spaces foster a multidisciplinary approach to cancer care and allow for video-conferencing and discussion of challenging cases with experts from the Huntsman Cancer Institute.


Hemotology-Oncology

Banu Symington, MD

Dr. Banu Symington is Sweetwater Regional Cancer Center’s hematologist/oncologist and medical director. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology, recertified in Oncology in 2013, and is active in Maintenance of Certification through the American Board of Internal Medicine.

She treats adult patients with a variety of cancers including those of the breast, lung, colon, prostate, pancreas, stomach, liver, kidney, head and neck, skin, lymph nodes, blood and others. She also treats patients who don’t have cancer, but have blood disorders such as bleeding and clotting problems, elevated blood counts and hemoglobin disorders. In addition, she will help patients reduce their future risk of cancer related to hereditary syndromes. She is passionate about cancer prevention through HPV vaccination and is a member of the Intermountain West HPV Immunization Coalition.

Dr. Symington received her undergraduate biochemistry degree and her medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania. She completed an Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Washington and Hematology/Oncology fellowship at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle. She worked as a staff scientist at the Seattle Biomedical Research Institute. She has won numerous research and clinical investigator awards. In 2017, she was appointed a Master of the American College of Physicians for her patient advocacy.

The Radiology Oncology department at Sweetwater Regional Cancer Center offers state-of-the-art radiation oncology treatment using high-energy x-rays and electrons to target cancerous tumors while protecting healthy tissue.
