Hospital ER entrance is open

Hospital ER entrance is open

Drive-thru Swab Station available at main entrance

The Emergency Room entrance at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County opened to patient traffic at 9 a.m. today.

The ER doors were closed most of Thursday and through the night as a result of a water leak, making it necessary to divert patient traffic to an alternate nearby entrance, said Public Information Officer Deb Sutton.

MHSC’s COVID-19 Drive-thru Swab Station will resume regular operations from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the hospital’s main entrance. The main entrance continues to be closed to patient traffic. Please use the ER entrance.

The line break occurred at about 11:20 a.m. Thursday. A frozen fire suppression system ruptured the sprinkler head in the ER lobby, said Gerry Johnston, MHSC Facilities Supervisor. A second sprinkler head at the main entrance ruptured a half hour later.

The Emergency Department and the ambulance bay were not affected, Sutton said. Only the entrances sustained damage. The Rock Springs Fire Department and MHSC security crews acted immediately to ensure patient and staff safety. There were no injuries.

“We apologize for any inconveniences and thank you for your patience,” Sutton said.
