Water line break closes ER entrance

Water line break closes ER entrance

Pedestrian traffic is being diverted

The Emergency Room entrance, as well as the main entrance at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County are temporarily closed due to a water leak.

At about 11:20 a.m. Thursday, a frozen fire suppression system ruptured the sprinkler head in the ER lobby, said Gerry Johnston, MHSC Facilities Supervisor. A second sprinkler head at the main entrance erupted a half hour later.

Traffic will be diverted until early evening, said Public Information Officer Deb Sutton. An update will be released around 5 p.m. Here are the entry points for the services you need:

  • All ER traffic is being diverted to the ambulance bay or to the Specialty Clinics entrance at 1180 College Drive depending on severity of emergency. Transport teams will be available to assist.
  • The COVID-19 Swab Drive-thru has been moved to the Specialty Clinics entrance at 1180 College Drive.
  • All pedestrian traffic for other hospital services has been diverted to the Specialty Clinics at 1180 College Drive.

The ambulance bay is not affected by this disaster, Sutton said. There were no injuries. The Rock Springs Fire Department and MHSC security crews acted immediately to ensure patient and staff safety.

“We apologize for the inconvenience,” Sutton said.
