Dr. Banu Symington, Oncologist/Hematologist at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County’s Sweetwater Regional Cancer Center, recently was invited to join the editorial board of CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians, the flagship journal of the American Cancer Society, as an associate editor.
“She has graciously accepted our invitation and we are thrilled to work with her,” according to Jin Kim, Journals Managing Editor. “She will be working alongside our current Editor, Dr. Don S. Dizon, and our Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Arif Kamal.”
As an associate editor, she will review and find reviewers for some of the submissions, write editorials, and suggest topics for future publications.
“I was asked to join the board in order to bring the rural perspective,” Symington said. “I feel especially honored because it means the steps I have been taking over the past 15 years to help improve rural oncology care are being recognized nationally and yielding results.”
A board-certified oncologist, Dr. Symington’s areas of special interests include prevention of HPV-related cancers, health care disparities, access to care and trials for rural patients, quality metrics, and sustainable solutions to the manpower shortage in medicine.
